Musings of Others

Musings of others, that I LOVE!

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase “each other” doesn’t make any sense.

Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi – 13th century

“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort.  You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it, you must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into the happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it. If you don’t, you will leak away your innate contentment.”  Eat, Pray, Love  One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia  Elizabeth Gibert

“Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together”   Vincent van Gogh

“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less”  C.S. Lewis

“If she’s amazing, she won’t be easy.  If she’s easy,  she won’t be amazing.  If she’s worth it, you won’t give up.  If you give up, you’re not worthy…Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.”   Bob Marley

“The power of a praying wife is not a means of gaining control over your husband…In fact, it is quite the opposite. It’s laying down all claims to all power in and of yourself, and relying on God’s power to transform you, your husband, your circumstances, and your marriage.”    Stormie Omartian

“I feel like I can conquer the world with one hand, when you are holding the other”      Unknown

“You ain’t right”      “I’m better than my own self”         Tiffany Ivey

“When there is nothing left to lose, we find the true self-the self that is whole, the self that is enough, the self that no longer looks to others for definition, or completion, or anything but companionship on the journey”               Elizabeth Lesser

“Some think football is a matter of life and death. I don’t like that attitude. I can assure them it’s much more serious than that”     Bill Shankly, In Sunday Times (UK) Oct. 4, 1981        Roll Tide!!!!

“When in doubt, DANCE OUT!”….from an episode of Wizards of Waverly Place

“My kids will not remember they grew up with marble floors, but they will remember how much time was spent together as a family”……from an episode of House Hunters

“A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort”……Herm Albright

  1. My mom had a phrase tacked to the bulletin board in our “lived in” kitchen growing up…. “I hope when my children look back on today, they remember a mother who had time to PLAY!” Your first quote reminded me of that, and her example of focusing on what is IMPORTANT. 🙂 I like the format of your blog, the title is very clever!
