Forgive and forget……
Should we forgive and forget? Some would say forgiving is the easy part; it’s the forgetting that is the bigger problem.
I’m all for forgiving; it is impossible to move forward without forgiving (and it’s the Responsible thing to do!). But I don’t think it is necessary to forget. Every moment of each and every day of my life has made me who I am today. The good; and yes, even the bad. And honestly it’s probably more often the bad that made me as I stand today. That’s a good thing! It’s my natural combative nature that won’t allow me to fold my hand; won’t allow me to stay down for long, or God forbid, LOSE! I’ve said it before, and here it is again; it takes more energy to be in a bad mood than a good mood.
So DON’T forget; it’s not about holding onto the negative and reliving the pain, disappointment, etc, it’s about taking that energy and projecting it forward. Searching within you to find the positive in a not so positive situation; that is the first triumph! Acceptance allows the forgiveness that keeps you moving forward away from the past (and yes it happenED, so it’s the past!). The energy used in remembering enables you to GROW. To grow into yourself; to become the greatness you may not have even imagined yet!
“Forgiveness is about the past. Trust and respect are about the future.”
